HOKA One One originated in France in 2009 and is the brainchild of Jean-Luc Diard and Nicolas Mermoud. Trail running enthusiasts themselves, the duo were inspired by their own appetite for better performance shoes. The name HOKA One One is a nod to the lightweight cushioning of the shoes that allow better speed and stability. Loosely translated from the Maori language, HOKA One One (pronounced ho-kah oh-nay oh-nay) means "fly over the earth".
