One, Ein, Un, Ichiban – which ever language you speak, the Orca Alpha is simply number one. The new generation Orca Alpha offers a wetsuit swim like you’ve never experienced before. The Alpha’s design has been refined and re-engineered in conjunction with the world’s best triathletes, including double Ironman champion Craig Alexander and ITU world champion Emma Moffatt, to provide even greater levels of performance.
Having introduced the open water swimming world to the superior buoyancy of Aerodome, Orca has once again raised the bar with the new Exo-Cell Buoyancy System. Exo-Cell is an innovative new material that is more than 25% more buoyant than Aerodome – it is used in a system of key areas on the rear area of the wetsuit to help optimize the swimming position, without affecting stroke and kick power.
The Alpha retains the FreeStroke 3 system of Nano SCS-coated 1.5-2mm #40 Cell panels through the arm, shoulder, chest and back areas. These lightweight panels are ergonomically crafted to provide unrestricted range of motion - so much so many people say it doesn’t even feel like they’re wearing a wetsuit. By combining the swim position achieved by the Exo-Cell Buoyancy System with the unparalleled flexibility of the FreeStroke 3 System, the Alpha is the ideal wetsuit for those looking for a swim advantage without compromise.
Other new features for the Alpha include the comfortable low profile neck seal, designed to sit flat against the neck, limiting water entry and reducing the incidence of chafing. The moulded neoprene Aquatread forearm panel has been enhanced to provide increased stroke power in the catch phase, whilst remaining easy to remove during transition. The high stretch nylon 4 Way Free Stretch inner lining is mated to the FreeStroke 3 System panels to allow dynamic movement, while the Exo-Cell panels are lined with a smoothskin neoprene for comfort and water resistance.
Whilst working as a swim coach, and from his first hand experience in competing in triathlon, Scott Unsworth realised that the wetsuits used at the time were completely inadequate for swimming. In 1992 Scott started up a company called Performance Speedsuits Ltd, based out of his parent's house in Auckland, New Zealand. He began to develop his "Speedsuits", which featured greater flexibility and buoyancy than other existing wetsuits.
The business started with Scott selling his Speedsuits from the back of his car at swim meets and triathlon events. The Speedsuits quickly gained a following amongst athletes and the business started to grow. Scott was taking his first steps towards introducing what would become Orca, to the world. A young New Zealand triathlete named Hamish Carter became one of the first athletes to sign up with the company that is now Orca. Over the next 13 years Hamish Carter went on to become one of the best known triathletes in the world - culminating in a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

About Us This web site is owned and operated by The Edge Sports Shop who are completely dedicated to your total satisfaction. If you have any suggestions or comments or if you need to contact us, please email us using the link on the store page or use the details below.
As with many retailers, sometimes it is necessary for us to compete with online competition by reducing our online prices. Thinking logically about it, an internet customer takes up virtually no time in the shop - you are not trying on different sizes (creating mess which has to be tidied by staff), often taking advice .etc. - a service we love providing but it still costs money! We will endeavour to match internet prices in our shop but this cannot be guaranteed. Similarly for the bike to work scheme, if a company is using a 3rd party voucher company (see our Bike2Work page) then we cannot match the sale price because we are not actually receiving the sale amount - we are receiving a lot less due to the commission taken.
