SurfEars were designed in southern Sweden by Christian Dittrich, a surfer living with serious ear infections that threatened his hearing. Having been surfing for 25 years, Dittrich was diagnosed with advanced Surfer’s Ear, which is a common condition amongst surfers that can have serious implications. Dittrich was faced with a choice between risky surgery that could only offer temporary relief or giving up surfing, and he could only find ineffective earplugs that were uncomfortable and still allowed water to leak into his ears. His response was to set up SurfEars and begin to search for a solution that solved the problem.

SurfEars began with a 3D printer and several surfers determined to find an answer, and the aim was to create a product that could protect the ears without compromising hearing and balance. Good hearing is essential to staying safe in the sea, and the combination of surfing experience and mechanical engineering expertise soon made the project a success. The result is impressive, and the comfortable, effective SurfEars designs have become a very popular piece of equipment for surfers all over the world.
